The View from Our Lens: The Investec Derby Festival

On Friday and Saturday 3 and 4 June, The Investec Derby Festival at Epsom Racecourse entertained hundreds of thousands of guests. And what a Derby it was!

On the Friday, Minding sealed a Classic double in the Epsom Oaks, giving trainer Aidan O’Brien a sixth victory in the bag.

On Saturday, it was not only the Champagne that was on ice. Harzand, the 13–2 Dermot Weld-trained winner of the 237th Investec Derby, spent most of the day with his foot in a bucket of iced water after having pulled off his shoe on his way to the racecourse.

Harzand ridden by Pat Smullen (L) wins the Derby ahead of US Army Idaho on the second day of the Epsom Derby Festival in Surrey, southern England, on June 4, 2016. Harzand won ahead of US Army Ranger and Idaho

And it wasn’t just the horses that wowed everyone. The hats on show during the Derby were outstanding and our #EpsomHattitude competition got lots of exciting entries. We’re announcing the winners on Friday (keep your fingers crossed!) but here are a few of our favourites.

The Investec Derby Festival is an outstanding day, wherever you’re based. But the hospitality this year took it to a whole new level.

Guests at the Winning Post enjoyed a cocktail welcome and dipped their toes into the pool whilst watching the action. They were so close to the racecourse they could almost touch the horses!

Over at Chez Rouz, guests rubbed shoulders with three generations of the Roux family. They had the pleasure of meeting Albert Roux OBE, Michel Jr. and Emily throughout the day whilst enjoying their exclusively designed menu.

Guests at the Derby Suite enjoyed the exclusive and intimate environment in the Queen’s stand. On the private balcony, the views of the races were unbeatable.

Those at our Tattenham Straight facility enjoyed great views as the horses approached the final furlong of the race. With Champagne on ice, great food, and an afternoon tea to die for – guests had a day they’re unlikely to forget.

With unobstructed views of the Parade Ring and Winner’s Enclosure, the guests at the Downs View suite enjoyed unique views and world-class hospitality.

No wonder the Investec Derby Festival is known as the greatest Flat race in the world.
